In the early days of fermentation, the need for a reliable and rapid way to detect the existence of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) stood foremost. Lactobacillus acidophilus was found to be an effective tool in this regard.
This is not surprising: LAB, like humans, are more prone to spoilage. Therefore, it is essential that they be detected as soon as possible, not just after production has started (as happened historically), but also before spoilage sets in and before any potential damage are done.
It’s been known for many years that LAB can survive up to a month at 25°C, but up until now, there has been no practical solution for detecting them at an earlier stage than that—until now. That’s why we developed the lactobacillus acidophilus colony morphology (LACM) test, which allows detection of LAB weeks or months ahead.
It’s fast, accurate, and works in any foodstuff: chocolate bars coated with cocoa butter, cheese, or various kinds of meat or fish, as well as foods containing fat products such as oils.
But how does it work? The test involves adding lactobacillus acidophilus colonies, B-12 precursors, to a sample containing the desired product (usually milk). The colonies grow and develop into reproducing cells through a “coculture”—a process that does not involve human intervention.
This indicates that you do not require to agonize regarding contamination by other types of bacteria when using this technique: no one else will be able to see or touch the samples you use!
2. What is lactobacillus acidophilus?
While people often ask us the difference between our apps and those of the competition, I have found that this question is rarely asked with our product. So, I thought I would take the time to explain what lactobacillus acidophilus is (the bacterium) and how it helps us with our products.
Lactobacillus acidophilus is a bacterium that grows in milk. It’s not as well known as bacteria like Salmonella, but it’s an essential part of our products.
“Lactobacillus” means milk-loving, and “acidophilus” means strong-willed.Like most other healthy bacteria, lactobacillus acidophilus loves milk, and it loves to feed on it. Feeding on milk gives lactobacillus acidophilus a unique advantage over other bacteria: taking in nutrients from the milk rather than just getting them from other sources like vegetables or meat.
This way, lactobacillus acidophilus can help prevent and fight diseases like inflammatory bowel disease caused by food poisoning or consuming unpasteurized dairy products (like cheese).
3. The benefits of lactobacillus acidophilus

4. The different types of lactobacillus acidophilus
As you know, lactobacilli like to live in the colon, producing a range of beneficial bacteria and other microbes. However, two critical bacteria are especially likely to live in the colon: lactobacilli, which makes acidophilus, and bifidobacteria and lactobacteriaceae, which have a range of acidophilus.
So there we have it: our starter set. We have four different types of lactobacilli (bacteria) and two additional acidophilus (producers of acidophilous bacteria). They do various things we need to do to our digestive system. But we should be careful about how we use them (too many people use them for un-needed purposes).
5. The best way to take lactobacillus acidophilus
The most popular food product, yogurt, has been around for centuries. This is the basis of many childhood memory. The traditional method of producing yogurt is to add whole milk to an alcohol-based starter culture, which is then fermented at a temperature between 45°C and 65°C for 24 hours.
The problem with this process is that it requires a lot of milk and other ingredients — which means that most people are lactose intolerant or have allergic reactions to dairy products due to having had problems with them in the past. So why use it? Because lactobacillus acidophilus, the bacteria naturally present in raw milk, can be used to improve digestion and provide an immune system boost too!
This says something from a sci-fi film, but it’s real life. And thanks to modern scientific research (and the help of yogurt makers), we now have a better understanding of how these cultures work (see this recent review). In particular, we know that Lactobacillus acidophilus has several actions:
• It improves gut health: from being able to fight off pathogens in the gut and preventing leaky gut syndrome.
• It also suppresses inflammation: this helps reduce blood sugar levels.
• It helps regulate cholesterol levels: it can lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and raise HDL (good) cholesterol.
• It inhibits cancerous colon growth: if you have certain types of colon cancer, Lactobacillus acidophilus may be capable of controlling this from happening (it was previously thought that Lactobacillus acidophilus was thought to cause colon cancer).
• It decreases your risk for heart illness by improving cholesterol levels and reducing your risk for heart attack.
6. The side effects of lactobacillus acidophilus
We live in a world of cat videos, and stock ticker feeds. Unsurprisingly, many people are looking for ways to make themselves healthier. Still, there’s a whole other world out there of dietary supplements that claim to enhance health or speed the recovery from injury. People buy them everywhere: health food stores, natural food stores, general shops, supermarkets, and even convenience stores.
Lactobacillus acidophilus is one such supplement — it’s an effective probiotic that helps prevent lactose intolerance by producing lactase (a type of enzyme) in the intestines. It has also been shown to positively affect the immune system, reduce inflammation, and improve the body’s ability to repair itself after injuries or illness.
Some studies have concluded that Lactobacillus acidophilus may be helpful for patients with chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease or diabetes and those who are obese or overweight.
However, there are also a lot of potential side effects associated with this supplement — some severe ones — which we explain here:
Lactobacillus acidophilus is not considered an antibiotic by the FDA, but it does contain several antibiotics in its composition, including penicillin and ampicillin. The most common side effect reported is diarrhea, which can be severe enough to require treatment and antibiotics.
Other side products contain nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, allergic reactions (including asthma ), and facial swelling.
There have been life-threatening allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) in sporadic cases. The body recognizes Lactobacillus acidophilus as a foreign invader because it contains “toxin” genes that can cause allergies when expressed in high levels in human cells.
Another type of “toxin” gene is present in large amounts on the surface of Lactobacillus acidophilus — these toxins are found only in bacteria, not yeasts or plants like Lactobacillus acidophilus.
